A brief fraction of my story

[Versão em Português]

[Oops, how are you? It’s likely that you came to this post through LinkedIn, am I right? It’s just that you can’t tell everything you’d like there because there are character limitations. That’s why I decided to tell it here. Thank you for coming and reading a little bit of what I became today.]

Hey there! I’m Lau Yamazaki, and I’ve navigated through a whirlwind of life experiences to be where I am right now. Let me share a bit of my journey with you—it’s been quite the ride, and maybe you’ll find a piece of your story in mine.

It all started in 1973 but I’m going to jump to 2013 where things get more interesting for our purposes here. Life seemed pretty much on track for me. I graduated in Architecture, moved my career to Product Design and founded my own Digital Marketing company until then. I had a stable job, my finances were in good shape, and my marriage was going strong. It felt like I was cruising on smooth waters. But you know how life has its way of throwing curveballs? Well, mine came hurling at me fast. Everything began to unravel, and it felt like I was watching my life melt away before my eyes.

By 2015, I found myself grinding away, working harder than ever, yet the bank account seemed to mock me with its emptiness. To add salt to the wound, my marriage couldn’t withstand the storm, and by the end of the year, I was signing divorce papers. It was a low point, and I was completely lost, unsure of how to pick up the pieces and start anew from what felt like less than zero. In fact, that was exactly it.

The aftermath left me in a thick fog of anxiety, depression, and a sense of rejection that seemed to follow me wherever I went. It was as if the world had turned its back on me. But in the midst of this darkness, I realized that I couldn’t let this be my end. I turned my focus towards healing—not just superficially, but deep, meaningful mental health recovery. I dug into research, seeking ways to build a system that would ensure I’d never have to go through such a devastating spiral again.

It was in 2019 that the seeds of my revival began to sprout. In the meantime, I married again and I developed a framework, something deeply personal and effective, inspired by my own surname. I poured everything into evolving this framework, making it robust and adaptable. And then, the moment of truth—I applied it to myself. To my astonishment and relief, it worked wonders. It was like finding the missing piece of a puzzle that I didn’t even know I was part of.

Seeing the transformative power of this framework on my life, I felt a strong calling to share it with others. I began mentoring, applying the same principles that had lifted me out of my darkest times. And guess what? It worked for them too. I was honored to teach and learn with more than 1800 students, between graduate, post-graduate, and mentorships in more than 20 countries around the world.

I also opened space to work with other companies and I have contributed to, created, developed, and launched small and large projects for many such as Rivian, DevReady, Viasat, NTT Data, Propetro, Banco Itaú, the Federal Government of Brazil, among many others.

Now, I stand before you, a testament to the power of resilience, transformation, and the belief that it’s never too late to turn your life around. My journey has inspired me to help others navigate their own, ensuring they’re equipped with the tools to face life’s challenges head-on.

Not just people. I understood and realized that companies, which are made up of people, could also benefit from this Framework. And so my Digital Performance Consulting was born, using User Experience Design approaches and methodologies to empower teams and generate profit for companies.

If my story resonates with you, or if you’re curious about the framework that changed my life and the lives of those I’ve mentored and advised, I’d love to connect. Let’s explore how we can work together to turn your challenges into stepping stones for growth and success.
